Nitrogen removal by different riparian vegetation buffer strips with different stand densities and widths

Abstract The migration of nitrogen (N) from farmland to lake aggravates eutrophication. Riparian buffer strips (RBSs) are crucial in alleviating into water bodies. This study examined the impacts different RBS patterns on removal. effects RBSs various widths (5, 15, 30, and 40 m), with vegetation types (Taxodium hybrid ‘Zhongshanshan’, poplar (Nanlin-95), a mixed forest T. ‘Zhongshanshan’ poplar) at densities (400, 1,000, 1,600 plants·hm?2) TN, NH4+-N NO3?-N removal rates depths runoff were studied. results showed that 15 m-wide removed most effectively, average NH4+-N, TN reaching 67.79%, 65.93% 65.08%, respectively. Among types, (74.28%) (61.71%). mixed-forest (65.57%). 1,000 plants·hm?2 was more suitable terms (74.25%), (71.08%) (62.67%). conclusion can provide basis width optimization for design construction an maximum eutrophication nutrient
